Aixa Perez-Prado is an Associate Teaching Professor at Florida International University. She has taught TESOL since 1997 and is a global learning faculty member at FIU. Before that, Aixa earned a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature/Letters at Buffalo State. Then, she progressed to a master’s in TESOL at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and a Ph.D. in Social Science and Education. Later, Aixa put the theory she had learned into practice by teaching English in Costa Rica and Morocco.
An inquisitive Aixa embraces interactive technology. Her research areas include bilingualism, language and power, and communication across cultures. She divides her time between Buenos Aires and Miami. Aixa and her Brazilian husband are parents to six children.
Visual aids are a key educational tool. So, in her video, Aixa presents a work-in-progress collage to the camera. She is also an author and illustrator of children’s books. The multi-talented Aixa is an acclaimed photographer too. She captures what she sees, recording it for posterity.

Aixa sees the value in living, studying, and working abroad. She claims she has done that her whole life. Aixa relocated from Argentina to the United States, aged four, and feels like a perpetual visitor. It’s an experience Aixa relishes, as it brings color, shape, and texture into her existence everywhere she goes.
Before blowing a kiss to an adoring audience, Aixa concludes by urging viewers to produce their very own collage by traveling the world. They can add their colors, shapes, and textures of choice to embroider it. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it gives birth to creative thinking. By integrating with different cultures and languages, you gain a new perspective on things.

Hhhhmmm…I like Dr. Aixa’s view of life! We all need to be as curious as the cat. Only then can we imagine and create a world different from what we know or are used to…
