Live with no excuses and travel with no regrets.” — Oscar Wilde
Beth Juanita Young has always had love for a number of things in life: community, food, travel, the ocean, and the arts. Beth grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, before moving to her mother’s home in northeast England at age seven. Growing up in an industrial town with a prevalent artistic community, Beth always knew she wanted to work in a creative environment. After studying Fine Arts for six years, she went on to graduate Northumbria University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art with Honours. In 2018, she made the decision to move with her partner to his hometown of Phuket, Thailand, shortly after graduating. Neither of them have looked back since.
Beth teaches visual arts to grades 7-12 with an International Program at a school in Phuket Town. She loves inspiring her students to explore their creativity and self-expression through visual and dramatic arts as well as offering guidance, support, and uplifting words to those who need it. Having had a fairly strenuous and trying high school experience herself, Beth always felt like she wanted to be the kind of teacher she wishes she had back then. In her down time, Beth likes to keep her own art practice alive at home, develop her Thai cooking skills, and swim in the beautiful Andaman Sea. Being in Thailand has given Beth the opportunity to grow her relationship with her partner’s family. She received a wonderful and precious chance to understand and experience many different aspects of Thai culture and tradition. Right now, Beth is nearing her 23rd birthday and is still in the process of figuring out exactly what her next steps are. She feels certain that she wants to continue her career in arts education. Beth is looking towards obtaining a PGCE sometime in the coming years. In the meantime, Beth continues to enrich young minds through creative arts, feed her hunger for exploration, and relax in paradise.
