We are so excited to share this year’s Dreams Abroad Holiday Video with you, our community. Our members have worked tirelessly to bring you fascinating content from their holidays and adventures abroad and we hope to give you a sneak peek into the faces behind these powerful words.
Dreams Abroad is a global community comprised of a wide range of backgrounds. Our voices are representative of a multitude of individuals who vary in race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, cultural and gender identity. Because of this, Dreams Abroad has asked its members to share a little bit about where they are in the world and what it is they will be celebrating for the holidays. We are both excited and honored to share their replies.
Kicking Off the Holidays
Leesa Truesdell, our fearless director, kicks off the video from her home base in Washington, D.C. For Leesa, this place is enveloped in a compelling symbolism of freedom and democracy and the new year brings promises of new beginnings and opportunities. Kristen Gammage who wrote a heartwarming piece called Reflections on Moving to Europe, shares her appreciation for her time with loved ones this holiday season in what she calls the “Capital of Christmas,” or Strasbourg, France.
Kira Browne, who shared in November of this year about her challenging and rewarding experience becoming a language assistant in Spain, looks forward to family joining her in Seville. She is excited to incorporate newly-learned Spanish traditions into their time together.
Cassidy Kearney, whose stories from her travels in Europe make for an absolutely absorbing read, is also a longtime editor for Dreams Abroad. She sends her season’s greetings from the Florida State University Campus where she excitedly awaits Christmas (something she missed dearly last year due to the pandemic).
Travelin’ Far and Wide
Leikyn Bravo is a member who has seen it all; she has traveled to over 45 countries on six different continents before the age of 22! Bravo sends cozy cheer from her family home in Chicago, Illinois with her dog, Noodles. Amanda Whitten wishes all a Happy New Year all the way from Tenerife, Spain. Whitten, a self-proclaimed “small-town girl” has shared tender works from her experiences abroad.
Serenity Dzubay, author of What I Know Now About Teaching Primary School, is immersing herself in the beautiful countryside of Andalucia, Spain. She looks forward to traveling to the UK for the first time in two years to be with her extended family for the holidays. Maria Perez, who has written in depth about her experience as a Language Assistant in Japan, divulges a local secret and reveals a favorite meetup spot in Madrid. She and her friends have found the best vermouth at the quaint Bodega de la Ardosa, where she stands outside to share holiday cheer from Spain’s capital.
Lastly, Lamon Chapman who has given us top-notch tips on travel restrictions during the age of Covid-19 shows off the beautiful mountains of Medellin, Colombia and wishes all a Happy Holiday Season. We hope you enjoy watching our video, just as much as we have enjoyed sharing the best stories of travel with you this year. As we bid farewell to 2021, we look forward to what’s to come in the new year. See you there!
