The endlessly-talented Ian Rutter urges you to go off the beaten track. Ian is a B&B co-owner, blogger, and concierge. He’s also a radio presenter, painter, and voiceover artist. Keeping himself so busy ensures there’s never a dull moment in Ian’s life. Basing himself in the south of Spain ensures he’s able to look on the bright side of things with around 225 sunny days a year.
On a clear day (and they’re more common than not), you can make out Granada’s Alhambra from Ian’s Moclín base. With partner Andrew, he runs Two South of Granada, a diverting window into Andalusian living with recipes and travel ideas aplenty. Discover their favorite bars in Granada. You’ll also learn about recommended hikes in the Andalucia area.
Responsible Tourism
Ian is the co-founder of #MyTravelPledge. The UK media praised this campaign as a great way to reward healthcare workers once the pandemic ends. In recognition of their efforts battling COVID-19, Ian, Andrew, and other B&B and self-catering accommodation owners have promised free and discounted stays to those employed in this profession. From being incredibly busy and stressed, they will be able to go to the opposite end of the spectrum in relaxed southern Spain.
Rural depopulation has made its mark on Spain. The young have largely relocated to the cities for jobs. Ian and Andrew are committed to offering cultural tourism as a lifeline for communities.
Ian is a true champion of inland Andalusia. It’s hardly a fly-and-flop destination like the Costa del Sol, yet it is perfect for slow travel, with 7,000-year-old caves the ideal base for leisurely picnics.
Spain is much more than the sum of its beaches. There is plenty to explore on top of its celebrated cities too. Andrew and Ian’s beloved small-town Andalusia can be discovered from their Casa Higueras doorstep.
